Should I buy a new mattress? What mattress should I buy? How much should I spend? Where should I buy it from?
These are just some of the common questions people ask me when they are considering purchasing a mattress.
before I answer the above questions let me first address some of the ones that
are of equal importance:
is it time to buy a new mattress?
sort of mattress should I buy?
Some of the tell tale signs of needing a new mattress are:
Waking up with lower back pain, shoulder or even neck stiffness (although the latter could be also related to your pillow).
When you once would wake up refreshed from a good night sleep, you now feel like you have barely slept at all.
When a mere 30 minutes enjoying your favourite novel results in lower back stiffness and soreness, when you used to lie in bed for hours.

A good quality
spring/supportive system to support your shoulders, spine and hips
A partner anti-roll
configuration as this will minimize disturbing the other person in the bed when
The top of the
mattress must have enough padding so that it is comfortable to lie on.
would also recommend buying from a reputable company with a proven track record
in case any issues with the mattress arise.
to lie on the mattress before you purchase it.
If it’s too hard: don’t buy it.
If it’s too soft: don’t buy it. If it gives you that feeling of “ah,
this is so comfortable and cosy” then that is the one you should consider.
